Vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians rejoice! World Meat Free Day (12th June) is here again and it’s the perfect excuse to rope your carnivorous friends into tackling your diet for the day. Struggling to convince them of the benefits of a meat free lifestyle? By going meat free for just one day you can save the equivalent daily water usage of 9 people, a fat saving of 2 teaspoons of butter and a carbon saving equivalent to boiling a kettle 388 times. Just think of how many cups of tea that’s worth.
Supported by an impressive roster including Greenpeace, the Wellcome Trust, Meat Free Mondays, Mike Joyce and Joanna Lumley, World Meat Free Day is quickly becoming a highly celebrated annual event. Even John Bishop has joined in on the action, encouraging people to get involved in a clip online that has since gained over 64,000 likes.
If you’d like to help raise awareness of the issues that intensive meat consumption cause our planet, why not share World Meat Free Day’s #ChangeIt video, sound tracked by Manchester band The Elk.
